Dan Mele Photography

Dan Mele is a coral restoration biologist turned conservation photographer and filmmaker. With a background in marine science and technical diving, he documents parts of the ocean rarely seen.
Dan's mission is to reshape perceptions of science and the scientists themselves, steering away from lab-centric stereotypes. Dan uses visual storytelling to bridge the gap between science and society, revealing the human connection behind every data point.
A TEDx speaker, Dan's underwater videography has enriched
Emmy-nominated and award-winning films.
His images have also been used in several books,
magazines, and online publications.
Our collaboration with Dan started after he won our product
as a prize in the Ocean Art Contest.
"As a coral biologist, I’m careful about what I use,
not just for me but for the ecosystems I work in.
Li Lé Blue’s Watersports Hair Oil has been a game changer: one application keeps my hair protected all day, even through long dives. It feels great to rely on a product that works and comes from a company committed to doing better for the planet!
One of Dan's collaborations was with Reef Response - a coral restoration program located in the US Virgin Islands. The program was created to increase coral cover and diversity of coral reefs around the Virgin Islands while empowering the local community to help mitigate the effects of changing environmental conditions.
