REEF FRIENDLY CERTIFIED

Every ingredient in every Li Lé Blue product was selected by Dr. Manuela through the same clinical reasoning she applies in medicine. The criterion was not trend, cost, or convenience — it was: does this work, and can it enter the ocean without consequence?

- THE SCIENCE

DR. MANUELA· CO-FOUNDER · LI LÉ BLUE

"Olga, a PADI dive instructor has been diving for 20 years and couldn't find a single product that actually protected her hair in saltwater without harming the reef below. I had the tools to solve that. I set one rule before I formulated a single compound: if it enters the ocean, it must leave the ocean exactly as it found it.That constraint didn't limit the science. It improved it."

- IN HER OWN WORDS

Manuela, a practising medical doctor with expertise in cosmetic chemistry. She designed the formula from first principles — applying clinical reasoning to salt damage, UV stress, and aquatic toxicology simultaneously.

The backbone of the Watersports Hair Care is a blend of ecological oils and extracts selected for their fatty acid profiles, antioxidant content, and aquatic compatibility. There is no filler. Every compound has a job.

The formula achieves two simultaneous effects that no single-oil product can: an optimal penetration effect that restores the hair shaft from within, and a coating effect that prevents further salt and water intrusion from without.

It is also one of the only watersports hair product formulated by a medical doctor and field-tested every iteration by PADI Instructor — in real marine conditions.

Offshore Hair Protection—
active ingredients explained.

- THE FORMULA

"Jojoba was the first ingredient I selected. Its molecular structure is so close to human sebum that the hair shaft accepts it immediately — no occlusion, no build-up."

Structurally very similar to the natural sebum of human hair. Creates a protective barrier that resists salt water penetration without weighing the hair down or leaving residue.

Jojoba Oil

Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil

"Camellia is the lightest of the oils and the last one applied in the formula sequence. It seals everything. Olga said the difference in smoothness after adding it was immediately noticeable."

Used for centuries in Japanese hair care for exceptional lubricity and shine enhancement. Adds the final protective coating without heaviness. Its small molecular structure allows it to penetrate beyond where larger oil molecules cannot reach.

Camellia Oil

Camellia Oleifera Seed Oil

"This extract fascinated me. A plant that lives entirely in water and retains structural integrity under aquatic stress — its chemistry was exactly what I needed for hair under saltwater conditions."

The formula's most distinctive ingredient. Extraordinary moisture-retention under mechanical stress — exactly what saltwater creates in hair. Chosen because it has evolved to survive some of the harshest aquatic conditions on earth.

Giant Water Lily Extract

Victoria Amazonica Flower Extract

"I chose the fat-soluble form specifically — it penetrates where the water-soluble form cannot. In a formula of oils, it needs to be compatible at a molecular level. It is."

A fat-soluble form of Vitamin C that penetrates the hair shaft and neutralises UV-driven oxidative damage, intensified by salt water exposure. Helps guard against the yellowing and brittleness that chronic sun and sea exposure cause.

Vitamin C

Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate

"Bamboo was a late addition to the formula — Olga reported improvement in texture but still some brittleness at the ends. Bamboo extract, rich in natural silica, solved it."

Silica-rich extract that strengthens hair structure from within. Counteracts the brittleness that develops after sustained exposure to marine environments. Works synergistically with the oil blend to reinforce what the oils restore.

Bamboo Extract

Bambusa Vulgaris Extract

"Argan gives us the antioxidant depth the formula needed. Two times more Vitamin E than olive oil — measurably better at neutralising UV-generated free radicals."

High in Vitamin E (tocopherols) and essential fatty acids — oleic, linoleic, and palmitic. Restores elasticity to hair that has been mechanically stressed by wind, wave and salt exposure.

Argan Oil

Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil

- WHAT WE DON'T USE

Ingredients chosen with the
same rigour as those included.

Reef-safe is not a marketing label. It is a formulation constraint. Dr. Manuela specifically avoided the following compounds — not because regulations required it, but because the science does.

ESSENTIAL OILS TOXIC TO AQUATIC LIFE

FOUND IN: MANY BEAUTY PRODUCTS

Several essential oils widely used in cosmetics — including certain lavender, tea tree, and citrus oils — are toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. Natural does not mean reef-safe. We avoid all compounds with documented aquatic toxicity profiles.

MICROPLASTICS

FOUND IN: SHAMPOOS, CONDITIONERS (AS OPACIFIERS)

Solid plastic particles like polyethylene pass through water treatment systems unfiltered and accumulate as physical debris in marine sediment and tissue. They do not degrade. No formula that contains them can be called ocean-safe in any meaningful sense.

SYNTHETIC POLYMERS

FOUND IN: MOST STYLING PRODUCTS, MANY CONDITIONERS

Film-forming agents like PVP and acrylates copolymers coat the hair shaft for hold and shine, but do not biodegrade once rinsed away. They persist in wastewater indefinitely, accumulating in the environment long after the bottle is empty.

CERTIFICATION

The formula certified

The final formula was submitted for independent Reef Friendly certification and dermatological testing. Once Olga confirmed the formula was perfect and the certifications confirmed its safety, Li Lé Blue launched.

FIELD TESTING

Olga dives the prototype

Each iteration went out into the field with Olga — multiple dives, multiple conditions. She returned with honest, specific reports. The formula was adjusted. She took the prototype on the next dive trip until the perfect result was achieved.

SCIENTIFIC FOUNDATION

The aquatic constraint

Before any compound was accepted into the formula, its  toxicology profile was reviewed. Any ingredient with documented harm to fish, invertebrates, or coral at realistic concentration levels was rejected — regardless of its efficacy.

SCIENTIFIC FOUNDATION

The chemistry of salt damage

Dr. Manuela researched the biochemical mechanisms of salt damage — hygroscopic swelling of the hair shaft, oxidative stress from UV, cuticle erosion from friction — and identified which compound classes could address each mechanism.

- iNDEPENDENT VERIFICATION

Not our claims.
Independently verified.

Dr. Manuela does not ask you to take her word for it. Every claim made by Li Lé Blue is independently verified. The certifications below confirm what the science already shows.

dermatologically tested

Our Hair Oil underwent independent dermatological testing in the EU — controlled studies evaluating the safety and skin tolerance of the finished formula.

Formulated to ISO 16128 Standards

International standard for the classification and labelling of natural cosmetic ingredients. All active compounds meet or exceed the natural origin index requirements.

REEF FRIENDLY CERTIFIED

Third-party certification confirming the formula contains no compounds with documented harm to coral reefs, fish, or other marine life at realistic use concentrations.

- ALWAYS WITH THE OCEAN IN MIND

Reef-safe by design.

Most beauty brands consider what a product does to your hair. Dr. Manuela considered what it does to the reef below you. These are not separate questions. They are the same question.

FIELD TESTING RECORD

Offshore Hair Protection underwent extensive testing across numerous dive trips before the formula was finalised. After each dive, Olga’s assessment served as the ultimate decision point. The product was only launched once she considered it perfect.

DR. MANUELA
CO-FOUNDER & FORMULATOR · LI LÉ BLUE

"I made this formula for Olga — specifically for hair that, after 20 years of saltwater diving, had every problem a hair product could be asked to solve." The constraint I set myself was that every compound entering the ocean must leave the ocean exactly as it found it.

Conservation funding with every purchase

5% of profit from every hair oil sale funds reef protection projects in Raja Ampat, Indonesia.

Glass packaging

The pump-action bottle is glass. Not for aesthetics — to reduce the use of plastic that accumulates in marine environments. The container is as considered as its contents.

Formulated for what enters the water

When you are in the ocean, every product on your skin and hair enters the ocean. Li Lé Blue is the first product Olga has used in 20 years of diving that she uses without reservation.

The formula is ready.
Your ocean awaits.
